I tell my clients this.  Go out on the web and find three sites that you really like and three sites that you really hate.  Look for functionality and features that you want to incoporate into your own site.  While I will not duplicate a site, sites can be re-hashed to reflect the indiviuality of your business.

After finding the six sites mentioned, write down what it is that appeals to you most and what doesn't.  This is a great start for both the client and me.  Knowing what features and functionality you want can better assist in the pricing process.

Often times a client just does not know what they want.  Have no fear!  This is where the CONCEPTS aspect of my design ability take form - I can design a theme based on your business.  Many clients have given me carté blanche and have been thoroughly satisfied with the end result.
